Privacy Policy

Overview

Pet Name Party is operated by JuMu LLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”). We run petnameparty.com, a free web app that helps you find a name for your pet, run a name vote with friends and family, and leave a review. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

The short version:

  • Your quiz answers and saved names stay in your browser.
  • Votes you create or cast, and reviews you submit, are stored on our servers.
  • We don't have accounts and never ask for your email address, phone number, or payment details.
  • We use Google AdSense and Google Analytics, which use cookies.
  • We don't sell your personal information for money.

Information We Collect

Information that stays in your browser

Your quiz answers, the names you shortlist, and a list of the votes you've created are saved in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to us unless you choose to include them in a vote you create.

Information you send us

  • Votes you create: the vote title, pet type, description, name options (with their tags and reasons), your name as host if you add one, and when the vote closes. Anyone with the vote link can see this.
  • Votes you cast: the name you pick or write in, your name if you add one, and when you voted. The host and other voters only see vote totals, not who voted or the names voters entered.
  • Reviews: your star rating, review text, and, if you add them, a display name and pet type. We read every review before publishing it. Once approved, the rating, text, display name, and pet type are shown publicly on the site.
  • Emails: anything you send to us at hello@petnameparty.com.

Please don't put sensitive or identifying information about yourself or anyone else in vote titles, names, or reviews.

Information collected automatically

  • Device ID: a random identifier stored in a cookie on your browser. We save it with the votes you cast and the reviews you submit, along with a record that your browser finished the quiz. It lets us allow one vote per device, show you your own vote, and limit reviews to people who have used the app. It does not contain your name or any other details about you.
  • IP address: when you create a vote, cast a vote, finish the quiz, or submit a review, we use your IP address to count requests and block spam and abuse. We store that count alongside the IP address.
  • Server logs: our hosting provider automatically records standard request details, such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested, to keep the service running and secure.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics collects the pages you visit, how you interact with them, the site that referred you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (derived from your IP address).
  • Advertising: Google AdSense collects information through cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads. See Cookies and Local Storage and Who We Share Information With.

How We Use Your Information

We use information only for the purposes below. If you're in the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, or Switzerland, the legal basis for each use is in brackets.

  • Running the quiz, name votes, and reviews you ask us to provide [performing our service for you, or our legitimate interest in operating the app]
  • Keeping votes fair (one per device) and preventing spam, abuse, and attacks [legitimate interest in a fair and secure service]
  • Moderating and publishing reviews [legitimate interest in showing genuine feedback]
  • Showing ads, which keeps the app free [your consent]
  • Measuring how the app is used so we can improve it [your consent]
  • Replying to your emails and meeting legal obligations [legitimate interest; legal obligation]

Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object, as explained under Your Privacy Rights. We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Cookies and Local Storage

Strictly necessary cookies (ours)

These are needed for features you use. They can't be switched off without breaking those features.

  • pnp_device: the device ID described above, which allows one vote per device and limits reviews. Lasts 1 year.
  • pnp_manage_[vote ID]: set only after you open the manage link for a vote you created. It keeps you signed in to manage that vote, so the secret link doesn't stay visible in your address bar. Lasts 60 days.
  • pnp_admin: used only by site administrators to moderate reviews. Lasts 7 days.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics)

Cookies such as _ga and _ga_* tell apart visitors and visits so we can see how the app is used. They last up to 2 years.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)

Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ad performance, and, if you allow it, personalize ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

Local storage

We save your quiz answers (quizInput), shortlisted names (savedNames, savedNamesDetail), and the votes you've created (myPolls) in your browser. This data stays on your device until you clear it.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies and clear site data in your browser settings. Blocking pnp_device will stop voting and reviews from working.
  • To turn off personalized ads, visit Google Ads Settings or optout.aboutads.info.
  • To turn off Google Analytics, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland are asked for consent before analytics and advertising cookies are used, and can change that choice at any time.

Who We Share Information With

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud host the app and store its database. They process data on our behalf as our service provider.
  • Google Analytics provides usage statistics.
  • Google AdSense serves ads. Google and its ad partners act as independent third parties and use information under their own policies. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and read the Google Privacy Policy.
  • The public: vote details are visible to anyone with the link, and approved reviews are visible to everyone.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.

Selling and sharing

We don't sell your personal information for money. However, allowing Google to use cookies for personalized advertising may count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under California and some other US state laws. You can opt out using the choices above. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

How Long We Keep Information

  • Browser data (local storage and our cookies) is kept until it expires or you clear it.
  • Votes, including every vote cast in them and any names voters entered, are automatically deleted 15 days after the vote is created. After that, the vote link no longer works.
  • Reviews, including reviews we decide not to publish, are kept until you ask us to delete them or we remove them.
  • Quiz completion records are kept with your device ID until you ask us to delete them.
  • Request counts linked to IP addresses are used only to limit abuse and are automatically deleted 15 days after your most recent request.
  • Server logs are kept by Google Cloud for its standard logging period, normally 30 days.
  • Google Analytics data linked to cookies and device identifiers is kept for 2 months. Reports based on aggregated data may be kept longer.

Your Privacy Rights

Anyone can ask us to access or delete their information by emailing hello@petnameparty.com. We don't have accounts, so please tell us how to find your data, for example the link to a vote or the text of a review. We may need to ask for a little more information to make sure the request comes from you. We won't treat you differently for exercising your rights.

EEA, UK, and Switzerland

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Have your data deleted
  • Restrict or object to how we use it
  • Receive your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier use
  • Complain to your local data protection authority

We respond to requests within one month.

California and other US states

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and to whom
  • Access, correct, and delete your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, including for targeted advertising
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

To opt out of personalized advertising, use Google Ads Settings. For other requests, email hello@petnameparty.com. You can also have an authorized agent make a request for you. We respond within 45 days.

In the past 12 months, we collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (device ID and IP address), internet activity (pages visited and interactions), approximate location, and content you submit (votes, names, and reviews). We collected them from you and your browser for the purposes described in this policy. We do not collect sensitive personal information.

Do Not Track

Our site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.

International Data Transfers

Our service providers, including Google, may process information in the United States and other countries. Where data from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland is transferred, it is protected by safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure cookies that JavaScript on the page can't read. Access to our database is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Children's Privacy

Pet Name Party is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app changes. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will let you know on the site.
